Tangelo’s Grille

Tangelo’s Grille (226 1st Ave. N., St Petersburg, FL 33701; 727-894-1695; fax 727-821-7027) is another spot a new friend delighted in sharing with me, which, in turn, I have delighted in sharing with others. It’s around the corner from Jannus Landing—an extremely popular and well-known St. Pete downtown rock concert venue. Next to Ticketmaster, it shares a colorful block with the likes of Heavenly Things. And, colorful, Tangelo’s definitely is, with bright, garish colors that tie into Tangelo’s tag line: “A taste of the islands.”

Check out this neat little video from a nifty website I intend to frequent more often: TURN HERE Short Films Cool Places about Heavenly Things and its neighbor Jannus Landing.

Just this week, before attending an IMAX matinee at Baywalk Muvico 20, I stopped about a block away from the theater at Tangelo’s for an early lunch. I had a grilled fish sandwich on crusty Cuban bread with a mole sauce. This isn’t on their menu, but since they always have chicken mole they’ve always made it for me if I asked. There’s good cold draft and imported bottled beer here, imported wine and homemade sangria also, but since I was going to a movie, I wanted to stay awake, so I had some unsweetened cinnamon flavored tea—excellent. The basket was garnished with a sprinkling of tortilla chips.

I haven’t yet tried their Key Lime pie, but will soon. The lunch menu has at least 5 different entree salads and an entire page of sandwiches. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday 11 am–4 pm; dinner is served Tuesday through Thursday 4-8 and Friday and Saturday 4 pm—9 pm. Both their lunch and dinner menus are online. There’s sidewalk dining, but get their early. Those tables fill up fast!
