serving areas inside Munch’s
Munch’s is truly old Florida and old St. Pete. It’s a breakfast and lunch place that’s been in business over 50 years. It is very much a favorite of locals. The waitresses have been there forever, one 30 years, another 31 years. You won’t feel like a stranger for long in this place. And, it’s a lot more than just folksy ambiance.

Texas hash omelet with fresh homemade biscuit
The food is excellent. Their breakfasts are A++ as far as I’m concerned. What makes the food so special are the several varieties of homemade sausages and hashes they use. One of my favorites is the Texas hash omelet, pictured here. As you can see, the home-fries are perfect. The waitress distinguishes between the home-fries and the hash-browns by describing the home-fries as “the hunky ones.” That they are. Also, check out the side view of the oven fresh homemade biscuit! (Yup, that’s real Fiestaware the omelet and home-fries are on.

vintage school pictures
Almost every inch of Munch’s walls are adorned with something. The prize among those pictures and tchatchkes goes to the collection of vintage local St. Pete school class photos. I actually know someone who was an elementary student in one of those…50+ years ago! I don’t know anyone who isn’t captivated by old photos, do you? And when you realize these are real, local people, it’s a special feeling.

books for sale and daily specials at checkout area
Munch’s, like most mom-and-pop places in St. Pete, is cash only. They’re located at 3920 6th St. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33705 (727-896-5972) and are open daily 7am to 3pm. Yes, there are sundries. (Love that word.) Used books are for sale at the checkout counter and the establishment provides a notary public if needed. Wonder if they’ve ever performed a wedding there.
