Midmorning walk: Coffee Pot Bayou

by Hilton Kean Jones on February 21, 2013

in Florida, Walks

This was the first morning I’ve walked along Coffee Pot Bayou. I’d simply not been able to find where to park before, but once I set my mind to it, today, there was no problem. There’s a nice, safe little Pinellas County park right on the bayou with plenty of parking.

Walking around the bayou is a real pleasure. It’s a long, long stretch of uninterrupted seawall. It’s my understanding there’s manatee, turtles, and other water life to be seen. I’ll educate myself on this some and start seeing what I can find.

There were two women paddling along standing up on some sort of floating devices. I have no idea what there were. They looked a little more substantial than surfboards. I honestly don’t see how they were able to maintain their balance.

These birds were wading near a hammock of cypress.

Once again, awesome photos! I’m amazed at all the wonderful places to venture to in St Pete, and thats just so far. More to come I’m sure! The two ladies are on stand up paddling boards. Apparently it is a new sport or form of excercise. Yes it would take super strong core muscles not to mention lots of cordination and balance. Here is a link that tells a little about it. Not that your’re looking to start that up, but good to know about I guess. LOL! http://paddling.about.com/od/paddling101/a/What-Is-Sup.htm

Thanks for that info, Ann! No, I think that’s way outside my fitness level. LOL
